Criticism from Alameda Research and U.S. regulators of the sale of Voyager Digital’s assets to Binance. U.S. is seen as “hypocritical and arrogant” based on unverified speculation. According to court documents, supporters of the cryptocurrency broker said so.
On December 19, Voyager Digital announced that its South American unit Binance had bid the highest amount ($1.022 billion) for the assets.
The broker was expected to reach an agreement to resell the assets in bankruptcy court on January 5. The transaction was expected to close by April 18, with an option for a one-time month extension.
The proposal was opposed by the SEC, the U.S. Department of Justice, regulators in New York, Texas,
Vermont, and Hawaii, and bankrupt Alameda Research; in September 2022, a similar exchange, FTX, won the resale bid with a $1.4 billion bid.
Voyager Digital called questions about Binance’s net worth “irrelevant.” The U.S. will fund the deal.
